I discovered how purposeless the architect was when they lost the ability to dream. The architect who cannot be a practical visionary cannot enlighten society.

Kevin V. Kelly Scholarship

Kevin V. Kelly was an exceptional architect, with a wide range of interests and passions. He pursued visual art prior to architecture and, as both a Catholic and a humanist, believed in the transformative pursuit of beauty to elevate us beyond our individual and mortal limitations. His renderings were key to his architectural identity. He understood art as a tool that could convince people to invest in an imagined — and brighter — future.

In his professional career, Kevin was both a direct and inadvertent mentor. He mentored traditionally, with hands-on guidance, as well as less-overtly, through effusive compliments and generous appreciation. The purpose of this scholarship is to extend that mentorship beyond his lifetime and to recognize individuals who demonstrate a combination of architectural talent, generosity, and curiosity.
